There are plenty of films out there that bring a tear to the eye, but these are the top 2 tear-jerker movies of all time that have us bawling every time.

First up, we have Hachi: A Dog’s Tale (2009). Movies about the relationship between animals and humans often seem to tug at our heart strings, but Hachi doesn’t just tug, it gives them a good yank. Based on a true story from Japan, this adaptation is set in America and focusses on the relationship between Hachi and his new owner played by Richard Gere. We won’t go into any spoilers here, but the loyalty shown by Hachi is what really gets our emotions bubbling.

Incidentally, there’s still a statue of the real Hachiko sitting outside Tokyo’s Shibuya train station to this day.

Next, we have The Notebook (2004). The ultimate tale of yearning and the agony of long lost love, this movie takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride like no other. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams play a pair who have a connection they cannot shake no matter how much time passes or where they find themselves, and if you’ve ever been in a similar situation, it will certainly ring true and leave you lost for words.
